(More customer reviews)I'm a popcorn freak and I've been using Johnny's Popcorn Salt for years. Every once in a while I switch back to plain salt just for variety's sake, but I always come back to my Johnny's. It enhances the flavors of the popcorn and butter - there's really no way to describe how good it is. No other popcorn salt I've tried has been this yummy.
I ordered a large supply some years ago from Johnny's website when I stopped being able to find it in stores, but now that Amazon has it in bulk for a decent price and no shipping, I'll be stocking up here. FYI, it does contain MSG, lots by the taste of it. I've never had a reaction to it and absolutely love that good old MSG savor. Try it and see!

Spice Supreme - Popcorn Salt Review

(More customer reviews)I'm a big popcorn fan. But only if it's homemade or theatre. And if it's homemade, it has to have the right salt. I purchased a bottle of this years (and I do mean years) ago for .99 at my local grocery. Each time I made popcorn I added just a shake of this to the bowl after the popcorn was popped in hot oil. This salt gave it the perfect taste and made the popcorn simply amazing. You can't get that taste with plain old table salt. Last year I finally ran out of it. Unfortunately I couldn't find it at the grocery anymore. I tried morton popcorn salt and it was horrendous compared to Spice Supreme. Spice Supreme seems to melt into the popcorn instead of just lay on top like other brands. No other spices or additives were needed for a great bowl of popcorn. And with Spice Supreme, it only takes a little. Although I can't afford to pay the high price being asked for here at Amazon (because it is in bulk, not being sold singularly) I am going to continue to search for this popcorn salt elsewhere until i find it. It's just too good to replace with anything else.

It is not as good as fleur de sel or some of the other "gourmet" salts, but it is only 15 cents per ounce, not 15 dollars. Note that this salt is flaked, unlike the normal crystals for which Diamond Salt is known. It absolutely CLINGS to the surface of the popcorn, fries, and other similarly-textured foods MUCH better. It has a cleaner taste than some of the brown or grey sea salts and CLEAN is always good in my book.
As a treat, I sometimes Iick the tip of my index finger, sprinkle a little of this on it, and then pretend like I'm getting ready to do a mini tequilla shooter, but without the lime. Almost like a couple of hours on the beach.
I can only give it four stars instead of five because it is NOT IODIZED and you could end up looking just like a frog with big goiter things on your neck if you don't get enough iodine. This is not a problem for people who eat a lot of seafood, but if you live in the Midwest far from the ocean it could cause some difficulties.

Personally...I like it. It enhances the popcorn flavor. Just don't use too much. But again, how much is too much? That is beyond the scope of this review. Do you trust my taste in popcorn seasoning? If so, buy this now. If not, just buy it anyway. You need seasoning. You know this or you wouldn't be reading this review. Your life is empty without popcorn seasoning. Spice up your life!

(North East, US) So having to get it online, Amazon was the best deal but it would be nice to be able to purchase a 6-pack of the stuff instead of 12 of them! (More customer reviews)Bought this popcorn salt looking for an alternative to pouring/dripping butter over freshly popped corn...nothing worse than soggy popcorn. I have always loved the salty/buttery taste of the movie theater popcorn, but couldn't find anything similar until now. This stuff is really delicious! The only complaint I have is that the container cap/lid has the double opening, so that you can choose to just pour it on or choose to sprinkle it over the popcorn. Unfortunately, the sprinkle holes in this cap are huge, so there's no sprinkling the salt around evenly, it just pours out anyways. To remedy this situation, we've purchased an extra salt shaker and just refill it when needed. That way, we can get the popcorn salt sprinkled on evenly without overdoing it.

I find the product works best when added to the kernels before popping; rather than trying to add it to popped corn. I use 1/4 tsp. for every 1/4 cup of kernels. With the oil already starting to heat in the kettle (just long enough to liquify it), I spread the kernel/salt mix evenly over the oil.
When I ordered this, I thought it was a small bottle. Note that it's actually a liter bottle, which is pretty big when you see it. However, that just makes the value even better.
It isn't the same exact flavor that is used at my theater. However, it is very similar and still very good.
