My bf and I both have subscriptions for this coconut oil. It's a great way to get it for an AMAZING price. I used to order the larger size and I was disappointed when it was unavailable for a while and I had to order the two pack in this smaller size (although really 29 ounces is not that small) but in the end I like it much better. With two smaller ones we can each have one if we end up running out around the same time otherwise, half of the coconut oil stays fresh and unopened. Oh, and if you want to put some on right after a shower, the smaller jar is more likely to actually fit in your shower.
We tried other coconut oils and they were...well...gross. Really rancid tasting. We use this in deep dish pizza crust and the one time we used another brand we basically ruined two giant 14 inch pizza pies. We also use it for flour tortillas, pie crust, refried beans, smoothies, coffee cake, um, all kinds of things. I am planning to try using it instead of butter in a croissant recipe, although I expect it will be quite tricky since it melts at a slightly lower temperature than butter, and gets harder when it hardens. Put it in the fridge and it is hard as a rock.
Anyway, we now use this stuff about as much as we use olive oil, and we've found it actually showing up in recipes in some newer cookbooks now, too, rather than us just trying to substitute and seeing how it works out. It does have a strong coconut smell and flavor, which enhances some recipes in a FABULOUS way, but may be detrimental in others.

Nutiva's coconut oil is cold-pressed, organic extra-virgin coconut oil, with its light taste, pleasant aroma, and pure white color, and industrialized coconut oil, with its bland taste, faint aroma, and off-white color. Please note that any tiny brown specks found at the bottom of Nutiva's coconut oil are from the coconut fiber and are indigenous to extra-virgin coconut oil. It is deliciously healthy cooking oil. Better than butter and are USDA organic. Unrefined with no trans fats, rich in lauric acid.

I've tried two of the major coconut oil brands that I order via the internet. I've been using the oil in food and on my skin for about 5 years. I ordered this just to see how it tasted because the price was so good, if it didn't taste right, I'd just use it on my skin. It is the BEST tasting oil I've tried. Tropical Traditions, Coconut Oil Supreme pale in comparison. This is truly a coconut oil you could eat right out of the jar. If you want to try a coconut oil that tastes as good as it smells, this is it. And the price is fabulous. Yea, Nutiva and Amazon!

A deliciously healthy cooking oil. Better than butter. USDA organic. Unrefined & no trans fats. Rich in lauric acid. A soothing body oil. The coconut oil myth. Coconut oil has been mistakenly described as not healthy. The fact is, coconut oil is cholesterol-free and rich in medium-chain good fats that doctors recommend. Why is it that baby formulas often include coconut oil? Because coconut is one of the world's most nourishing super foods. Nutritionists suggest enjoying up to 3 tbsp of extra-virgin coconut oil each day, so help yourself to this heavenly, creamy taste of the tropics. Nutiva's cold-pressed Coconut Oil is: Extra-virgin & pure white: not refined, deodorized or bleached! Organic: so it's free from pesticides, GMOs and hexane. Versatile: Ideal as high-heat cooking oil (up to 350 degrees), as a nutritious substitute in baking, a better-than-butter replacement on bread, vegetables or popcorn, and as a luscious oil for skin care, hair care, and massage. America needs an oil change. While doctors suggest we consume a 4:1 ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3, the average American diet provides a ratio of 20:1 or more - contributing to heart disease, skin disorders, and arterial inflammation. So avoid out of balance soy, corn, and canola oils with their trans fats, oxidation, and GMOs. Cook with coconut oil (with only 1% Omega-6), and use olive oil (also low in Omega-6), and hemp oil (with the perfect 3:1 Omega ratio) for unheated recipes. Nature's ideal all-purpose cooking oil. No trans or hydrogenated fat; no cholesterol or hexane. Unlike other brands, we press our coconuts within 2 hours of chopping. No refrigeration required. Solid at room temperature and melts at 76 degrees. Any coconut husk fibers at the bottom of the jar are indigenous to the processing and harmless. Coconut oil contains medium-chain good fats with 50-55% lauric acid - a healthful nutrient that supports the metabolism. Certified organic by QAI. Product of the Philippines.

Chocolate Popcorn Flavoring Review

I ordered this to use in my popcorn machine. I was uneasy about how the kettle would handle this product, but since I have a great kettle cleaner I went ahead and ordered it. I am sure glad that I did because this is FABULOUS! It leaves no mess in the kettle at all. When it starts to pop the first kernels that come out are the best coated ones and then as more pop they get less coated, but if you mix them all together I think you get great flavor. Just remember this is a sticky coating when it first comes out so unpopped kernels stick to the popped ones so watch out for those. Still a great tasting product that I will keep purchasing...

If you have one of the carnival or theatre kettle style popcorn poppers you are gonna love it. You will swear you eating your favorite "movie theatre" popcorn.
If you are like me and you've always loved popcorn, but never really had a easy way to cook it and have it taste like real movie theatre popcorn, then this is for you.
As a kid we had all different type of poppers; an old aluminum pot that sat on a electric burner, one of Mom's older pots with a non-stick surface, the plastic cone looking things to use with a microwave.... still none of them gave us the taste and smell of movie theatre popcorn.
I finally broke down and bought a kettle style popper. Most importantly I found the "Mega-Pop" popcorn packages. Each package container just the right amount of corn, cooking oil and popcorn salt to make the best tasting popcorn you've ever eaten !
Now you say, "I can't afford a kettle style popper", no problem. If it is just me here, I snip the top of each container and pour about half of each item into a pot with a non-stick surface, cover the pop and shake the pot 'til it is done popping. Put the corn in a bowl, bag or basket and sprinkle with popcorn salt.... goes great watching a movie, college football game - whatever.

This product is more than coconut oil, it has palm oil and other hydrogenated fats and ingredients. I would like to send it back since I find this item useless.

First, please don't pay attention to the review by Amy Browntoe. She was clearly high on some form of narcotic if she thought this product was a Twinkie..
Coco-Pop is amazing! I've been becoming a popcorn specialist over the last several months ever since getting an oil popper for my family. I've been looking for that perfect, "at the movie theater" popcorn. Here's the secret.. coconut oil and flavacol salt. this is what the movie theaters actually use.
I got the flavacol first, and man is that stuff amazing. if you could only choose one or the other, I'd choose the flavacol. but I also wanted to try the coconut oil. all of the jars of actual coconut oil for sale are huge, enough to last a life time. and expensive. So I saw this product as an easy way to test out the waters... it's cheap, not too much of it, and as an added bonus, it's super easy to store and measure. Just use a butter knife to cut off a portion.
The directions say one bar is good for 12-16oz of popcorn. I used about 1/4 stick for 3/4 cup of un-popped popcorn. That seemed pretty good for me, maybe a bit less, I'm not sure.. still experimenting with the perfect amount. Just added it to your popper first, it will melt in a matter of seconds, then add the popcorn.
when all is said and done, you'll have a wonderful aroma filling your house, perfect coloring, and amazing popcorn that leaves you wanting more. I'm glad my kids love this so much. I'm sure to have started a tradition that will last for generations, as we are having great memories making and eating the popcorn together.
HIGHLY recommended.

Paragon Coconut Popcorn Popping Oil (Gallon) Review

I have identified 3 critical parts to the movie theatre popcorn you love. I will break it down for you:
1- Paragon Coconut Popping Oil = Provides the 'nutty/toasted' flavor, the odor that permeates the local cinema, and yellow hue to the popped corn
2- Flavacol = The pseudo-buttery flavor and ultra-fine salt of good cinema popcorn.
3- *Butter-flavored topping = that goo you get when you ask for "extra 'butter' " at the concessions counter.
I hesitated buying this at first ... thinking "$15 ... is it really worth it?" I procrastinated buying Flavacol because it seemed silly that shipping cost more than the product itself. Well, now after 1.5 years I still haven't used up either product and spent less than $30 total for popcorn that is absolutely incredible.
*IMPORTANT* - I read a review that stated the purchaser was dissatisfied because it wasn't 100% Coconut oil. The label on the back says "76 (degree symbol)" coconut oil plus beta carotene NOT "76% Coconut oil" . It's 100% Coconut Oil mixed with beta carotene (for yellow color). The "76 (degree symbol)" refers to the melting temperature of the coconut oil. [I had it sitting on the counter when it was 80 degrees indoors and it started to melt ... later that same evening when the A/C brought the house to 74 degrees for a couple of hours ... it began solidifying again. Neat.]
This popcorn oil is a solid at room temperature* (less than 76F) and provides NO butter flavor. It does not require refrigeration once opened. It DOES provide the 'missing ingredient' between cinema popcorn an your homemade popcorn. Been using some form of vegetable-oil haven't you? It JUST doesn't taste correct, right? Add about a heaping spoonful of this 'popping oil' (solid, remember) to a batch of stove-top popcorn and you're done. (I have tried 'gourmet' popcorns, white popcorn, etc ... but have found that plane-jane barebones no-frills yellow popcorn from your local store actually tastes best.)
If you want 100% theatre-like popcorn ... you'll have to substitute #3> above with the 'butter-flavored topping' of your choice. But, to be honest, that goo kind of turns my stomach. The butter does soften the popcorn slightly (there's a little water in the butter after all) but it's still awesome.
I prepare my popcorn using a stovetop hand-crank popcorn popper, add a heaping spoonful of the 'oil' (remember, solid at room temperature) and 3/4 tsp of flavacol. Top with 3 tbs of butter melted in the microwave and you're done. Bliss. Heaven. It's soooooooo good.
